The School
Mt. Maunganui Language Centre is small,
catering to 30-50 students at one time The atmosphere
is warm, friendly and relaxed. The students enjoy
studying and making friends in the pleasant, sunny
buildings. The school is near the local shops, banks,
post office and beach, so the teachers use these places
to help the students to practise their English.
Classes are small, usually with 8 students and a maximum
of 10.
The students who attend Mt. Maunganui
Language Centre come from all over the world, including
the following countries: Japan, Switzerland, the Czech
Republic, New Caledonia, Thailand, Korea, Taiwan,
Russia, Germany and Tahiti. The ratio of nationalities
varies according to the time of year. Students' ages
range from 14 to 60 and the average age is 22. Younger
children are welcome in groups.
The Teaching
The teachers are RSA/UCLES qualified and experienced
in modern teaching methods. Their lessons are lively
and very practical. A small class size means that
students improve their speaking and communication
skills. Any student with special needs receives personal
attention.
There are about 22 class hours a week.
