The Services
Counselling staff are available who are native
speakers of Japanese, Swiss German, Korean, French,
Mandarin, Thai, Portugues and Spanish. They are happy
to help students when they have a problem.
A transfer service is available. A school
representative meets students at Auckland International
Airport and takes them to a transfer flight at the
Domestic Airport. This flight takes about 40 minutes
and the homestay family meets the students at Tauranga
Airport, the nearest to Mount Maunganui.
The
Accommodation
The school arranges board (homestay)
for students with local families. These families all
enjoy meeting students from other countries. They
are also happy to help them with their studies and
other interests while they are in New Zealand. The
school can also arrange homestay in a rural location
(farmstay). The farmstay fee includes transport to
and from school each weekday. Sometimes students prefer
to rent a house or stay in a backpackers' lodge.
The school tries to match students
with a suitable homestay, according to their interests.
Families are all personally known to the school staff,
one of the benefits of a small town, and homes are
of a good standard. Some homes are within walking
distance of the school, others a short bicycle or
bus ride away. The town is very flat and traffice
is light so cycling is easy. Bicycles can be rented
for about NZ$25 a month or bought for about NZ$200.
The bus fare is NZ$5 per day.
