Editing Services

Fees and payment

We offer two kinds of editing service, which have different fee rates:

1. Editing of English

  • Proofreading and editing for both native and non-native speakers
  • Academic and scientific/technical documents a speciality, but we also edit documents for business and commerce
  • A professional look for your documents
  • Care and attention to detail
  • Different levels of editing. We can give your document a final polish or rewrite it completely from a rough draft.
  • International English and North American spelling conventions respected
  • Appropriate vocabulary, style and level of formality
  • Clarity and precision of expression
  • Documents prepared according to the style of the journal to which you will submit your document, usually according to an appropriate major style manual (Chicago, Modern Languages Association, American Psychological Association, Council of Biology Editors, American Medical Association, American Sociological Association or American Chemical Society.)

2. Editing for Logic and the Flow of Argument:

  • Assessment of logical consistency within various parts of the text
  • Identification and rectification of unclarities due to structure
  • Assessment of how the argument of the paper fits together as a whole, i.e. cohesion of structure
  • Identification of fallacies in argument
  • Assessment of evidential relations, e.g we ensure that claims made in the conclusion do not go beyond the evidence supplied in the main body of the text
  • Tightening up of the structure of argument, e.g. by identifying , and rendering explicit, hidden premises, or by pointing out text that is unnecessary to the argument
  • Pointing out of omissions in the text, e.g. references, notation, figure and table captions

If you require this service, please indicate what parts of your document you would like to be reviewed, when you submit your paper. It should be noted that the successful completion of this service will usually require more extensive communication between author and editor than does simply editing the English. It is especially useful for papers that have been rewritten to take into account the comments of anonymous revieweres, prior to resubmission to a journal.

Editing for Logic and the Flow of Argument is not available to students who are preparing a thesis or dissertation for submission for a degree.

NB Editing English and Editing for Logic and Flow of Argument are not mutually exclusive. It is, for example, not always possible to edit English satisfactorily without changing lthe logical structure of paragraphs at the same time. When this happens, the editing will be charged at the Editing of English rate only.

How to submit your document for editing

Your document should be in the following format:
  • 12 pt. text
  • double-spaced
  • saved in either .rtf (rich text format), MS Word or .tex format. If you submit your document in .tex format, please also send a compiled version in .pdf format.

You can send your document to us in the following ways:

  • Send it by e-mail to editor@camlang.com, fax it to +66 (0)38-664-798 or send it using our online submission form.
  • You should include a covering letter stating the length of the document, your deadline for receipt of the finished document and any special requirements that you may have. Should you wish us to edit your document by hand, please let us know and send us your return address.
  • If you fax your document, please include a return address. We will edit and mark it up by hand and return it to you by post.

How long does it take?

The time taken to edit and deliver a document will be a matter for discussion between the client and CLC. Long documents will, obviously, require more time than short ones.

CLC will edit and return a document of about 2000 words in 24 hours if necessary, but we prefer a turnaround time of about 7days for academic documents. This gives us time to find an editor with the appropriate skills and background knowledge.

Our charges for express service are as follows:
24 hour service: 30% surcharge for a 2000-word paper
48 hour service: 15% surcharge for a 2000-word paper
48 hour service: 30% surcharge for a 4000-word paper
Double charge for work on Sundays
(It is not practical to specify precisely surcharges for every kind of document. CLC reserves the right to assess surcharges as necessary, using the above as guidelines.)

Procedure: editing of English

  • CLC staff will analyse the document and send it to an editor who possesses the required expertise.
  • The editor will save the original, make corrections in blue, red or green according to your preference, and send a revised copy to CLC.
  • CLC will calculate the fee and send a copy of the revised version of the document back to you by e-mail or ordinary mail, with a bill.
  • Once the document has been returned to you, you will be able to ask the editor any questions that you have, without further charge.
  • Should you revise significant sections of the document in such a manner that they may be deemed to be new work, the checking of these sections will be charged at the standard rate.
